Wednesday’s watch

Hello

We have been very fortunate to have been offered some beautiful watches over the last couple of weeks to which many of them have quickly found new homes.

Today however I wanted to share one of these with you as I can’t stop looking at it!

As a brand IWC or International Watch Company needs no introduction as they have been manufacturing luxury watches since 1868 in their factory in Schaffhausen, Switzerland.

Personally I think they are as well made as any other luxury watch manufacturer across the globe and the watch I am writing about today is one of their classics that has been around for many years and I expect will be a regular model for many more years to come.

Known as the Portugieser this is their very slim automatic chronograph. Mounted in it’s 40.9mm case is an excellent movement with a 44 hour power reserve. When needed you have the added function of a chronograph where you can see the striking blue second hand gracefully sweeping around the dial with it’s minutes recorded on a contrasting sub dial.

I found myself forever changing the angle of the watch on my wrist to get the glint off the rose gold applied hour markers again contrasting with the silver dial.

This is just so elegant and fits the wrist like a glove so much so you forget you are wearing it until you mind triggers the action to flick your wrist and present you with a snapshot of time but perhaps also a lingering look at a timepiece I must congratulate the IWC designers for.

Buying pre-owned is in this case a great decision as today you would pay £6250  from your local IWC dealer. Bought new in 2013, serviced by IWC in 2015 and now with a £1855 saving this is well worth considering if you are looking for an understated classic Swiss watch!
