Background information
THE HISTORIC FASCINATION OF THE RADIOMIR 1940 CASE REVIVES IN THE NEW RADIOMIR 1940 3 DAYS in steel, fitted with the P.3000 calibre, a hand-wound mechanical movement with a power reserve of three days. In the Radiomir 1940 3 Days the essential forms of the Panerai design have been integrated with the technical solutions for an haute horlogerie sports watch, which have influenced the materials chosen and the construction of every detail.
The dial, with the small seconds hand at nine o’clock and the date window at three o’clock, has the sandwich structure of two superimposed plates
with the luminous material between them, the light of which emerges through the holes in the upper plate corresponding to the hour markers. This type of dial construction was designed by Panerai in the late 1930s to provide greater brightness and legibility. The colour of the dial is black. The case is made of AISI 316L stainless steel, highly resistant to corrosion. The case and bezel have a polished finish. On the back is a large sapphire crystal window through which the P.3000 movement, entirely developed and produced in the Officine Panerai manufacture in Neuchâtel, can be admired. The Radiomir 1940 3 Days is supplied with a black leather strap.
Construction
AISI 316L 1.4435 stainless steel is Officine Panerai’s material par excellence since it is highly resistant to corrosion and is hypoallergenic, making it ideal for contact with the skin.

The Panerai watches created for the Italian Navy were made of austenitic stainless steel, a reliable material that was also resistant to the extreme environmental conditions in which the commandos operated.

AISI 316L, a specification of the American Iron and Steel Institute, is an austenitic stainless steel alloy with a chromium content of 16–18%, 11–14% nickel and 2–3% molybdenum.
Officine Panerai uses the low-carbon variant of this alloy: the lower carbon content of the steel improves its welding qualities where the metal’s thickness is 6mm or less. The excellent technical qualities of this material make it an essential element of every new Officine Panerai collection.
