Haute Horlogerie, also called fine luxury watchmaking, refers to the category of timepieces that incorporate grand complications like the minute repeater, perpetual calendar, moon phases, split seconds chronographs and Tourbillon mechanisms.
We have great pleasure being able to offer such a watch from the celebrated manufacturer Girard-Perregeaux founded in Geneva in 1791. Many famous watches have been made by them including a pocket chronometer with three straight bridges and a Tourbillon escapement.
This incredibly rare and collectible watch left their factory in Chaud-de Fonds in June 2003 where it has been in the hands of a private collector. At the time of purchase 15 years ago it was circa $40,000 so certainly a very expensive and complicated timepiece. A hand written certificate with signatures by their chief horologist and company president is included.
Since then it has barely been worn but was recently treated to a service by Girard-Perregeaux at a cost of £4000 and has been unworn since. It bears a brand new leather strap and a rather nice brown strap too to get a slightly different look.
We say this is rare, at time of creating this listing we have been unable to find another one in the world for sale so any collector can be assured they have added a highly desirable watch to their collection.
So now a little more about this Vintage 1945 XXL. It is made in 18ct white gold and mounted on a new black alligator strap with a 18ct white gold deployant clasp.
The movement is automatic with a 42 hour power reserve. It features a split second chronograph (rattrapante) with jumping seconds (foudroyante) giving you an 1/8th second accuracy for timekeeping.
The square case measures 37mm by 37mm so a large watch which is extremely comfortable to wear.
It comes complete with an outer box, a beautiful wooden presentation box with lock and key, all instructions and a certificate of authentication from Girard-Perregeaux, so a full set as it left the dealer in 2003.
We would welcome the opportunity to show this in person as the pictures cannot quite illustrate the pleasure a watch lover will have with this in their hand.
